The Gaelic name refers to the Big Grey Man a giant spectral creature who haunts the summit and surrounding areas of Ben MacDuhi in the Ciarngorms. He is said to stand between 7 and 10 feet tall, covered in shaggy grey hair hence his name, and to be hostile to climbers, but only those brave, or doo lally enough, to solo the mountain.{You would need a good few whiskies inside you, before you considered such a daft move!} Am Fear Mhor Liath has chased climbers sometimes to their deaths, over the precipitous Lurchers crag; the men had succumbed to terrible despondency and overwhelming suicidal thoughts, which often accompany an appearance of the Big Grey Man. There can also be heard massive crunching footsteps 3-4 times the size of the steps taken by the fleeing climber..believe me I know! Am Fear Mhor Liath has also been seen in the Lairig Gru a beautiful and sometimes treacherous pass, through the Cairngorms here the weather can change in an instant, and The Big Grey Man seems to prefer cold, stormy, snowy conditions, perhaps he is aware of the effect they can have on cold scared and hungry climbers

Smile.Nearly all of Scotland's mountains, have ghosts or legends attached to them, there is reputed to be something nasty on Sgurr Dearg, a steep ridge on the Black Cuillin on the gorgeous Isle of Skye.
